Orthodontics

Orthodontics for all ages

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that aims to improve dental alignment and the relationship between the upper and lower teeth; this last point requires action not only on the teeth but also on the jaws! This is why the exact name of this discipline is “dentofacial orthopedics” and not orthodontics.

Orthodontic appliances

The orthodontist can start treatment and place multi-ring (or multi-attachment) braces, even if all the baby teeth have not yet been replaced by the permanent teeth. It is possible to start a treatment with only a few permanent teeth (molars, incisors) in place on the arch.

These fixed appliances are made up of brackets glued to the outside of the teeth, connected by a metal arch. The attachments can be named indifferently: brackets, rings, plates, tubes… They are either metallic or ceramic. The cases have a groove in which a wire is inserted to guide the movement of the teeth.

Inter-maxillary elastics

Inter-maxillary elastics are sometimes necessary. They help to optimize the occlusion, i.e. to obtain a good interlocking of the upper teeth with the lower ones. Pain may appear during the first hours or days. It is then necessary to insist a little, possibly to take an analgesic. Elastics are changed regularly, as they stretch and their effectiveness decreases. It is possible to remove them during meals, but do not forget to put them back on immediately afterwards.

Invisible orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is not just for children, but also for adults with impressive results.

Invisible orthodontics is a recent and growing technology. The aligners are a custom-made, transparent tray system that gently corrects dental misalignments by applying particularly low forces.

Indications

Aligner treatments are recommended for :

  • EMisaligned or slightly overlapping teeth
  • EEnlarged interdental spaces

Benefits

  • ECustom-made, comfortable equipment
  • EAlmost invisible, allow to express oneself without embarrassment
  • EShould only be removed for eating and brushing teeth
  • EAllow the realization of the acts of daily oral hygiene (less risk of caries)

Process of the treatment

First consultation

Your dentist performs an initial examination and takes an impression of your mouth (upper arch and lower arch).

Second consultation

A detailed treatment plan is proposed (number of aligners needed, duration and cost of treatment). After validation on your part, your aligners are made to measure.

During the entire treatment period

Worn daily, the invisible aligners will gradually and gently align your teeth. You usually change aligners every two weeks.

End of treatment

You will have a harmonious smile and a functional alignment.
